Data compiled by the University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation aims to provide a more accurate depiction of global alcohol consumption than prior estimates conducted by institutions like the World Health Organization. The study also exposes in greater detail the dangerous effects that heavy drinking can have on international rates of disease, disabilities and even death.

A groundbreaking technique looks set to turn man's best friend into a trafficker's worst nightmare.

It will allow dogs to sniff out ivory, rhino horn and other illegal wildlife products hidden in large shipping containers, using a tiny sample of air.

The method is being trialled at Kenya's Mombasa port - said to be Africa's most active hub for ivory trafficking.

An illegal fishing boat has run aground and been found abandoned in crocodile-infested waters in northern Queensland, Australia.

Authorities have found 11 people and think more are hiding in mangroves near Daintree, north of Cairns.

It is unknown if those on board were illegally fishing or if they are refugees, but border force officers are on the scene.
