“The co-authors and I each have a general interest in Evolutionary Psychology. Given this interest we are also interested in mating; especially how males and females may look for different characteristics in a mate,” said study author Curtis S. Dunkel of Western Illinois University.

The researchers examined data collected from the Wisconsin Longitudinal Study, a long-term study which has tracked about 10,000 men and women from 1957 to 2011. They found that a woman’s physical attractiveness predicted her husband’s intelligence. In other words, more physically attractive women tended to have more intelligent husbands.

How Bad Is Bacon for You, Really?

It's a debate that plays out in everyone's head during a weekend brunch: Should I be eating this much bacon? Researchers have been diving into the question, too, specifically as it relates to cancer.

The question once again jumped to the forefront of people's minds with the recent release of a meta-analysis that concluded that bacon and several other types of meat are tied to an increased risk of breast cancer.

As most kindergarteners know, sharing is caring. That's also true for grownups, particularly those with a Netflix account.

Altogether, 3 out of 4 Americans are sharing streaming, shopping and mobile accounts such as Netflix, Hulu, Uber, Spotify, Amazon Prime and Airbnb with their family, friends and even exes, according to a new study by Country Financial.

Social Security provides retirement benefits to more than 47 million retired workers at the end of their careers, as well as provides support to family members of those workers. The vast majority of workers earn benefits by paying into the Social Security system through payroll taxes.

Yet what many people don't realize is that there are some workers who aren't part of Social Security. They don't have to pay Social Security payroll taxes on their earnings during their careers, but they also can't count on the program to provide retirement benefits. In particular, teachers and other public sector workers in 15 states across the country get left out of Social Security in many cases.

A Local Push to Boost the Smoking Age

Nearly 350 cities and communities in the United States have opted to increase the minimum legal sales age for tobacco products – including e-cigarettes – from 18 to 21.

On Monday, San Antonio, Texas, became the first city in the Lone Star state and 341st locality in the U.S. to enact a Tobacco 21 ordinance, 13 years after Needham, Massachusetts, became the first town to increase its minimum smoking age in 2005. The localities that have already bumped the age limit up range from big cities like Chicago and New York City to small cities and counties like Garden City, Kansas, and Adams County, Mississippi.

How to Invest in Senior Cohousing

Communal living has moved beyond the college dorm and spread into housing communities nationwide. A select handful of these cohousing communties, which combine private homes, condos or apartments with shared living spaces, cater exclusively to the 55-plus crowd.

“Senior cohousing fills a significant demand in the marketplace for seniors that no longer want to live on their own, but don’t need assisted living,” says Kevin Vandenboss, broker at Vandenboss Commercial in Lansing, Michigan.
