Hydropower emerged as a dependable way to illuminate American cities in the late 1880s. Not much has changed in 2018; in fact, hydroelectric dams have been the largest source of renewable electricity generation in the United States for over 100 years. But that's all about to change.

A combination of decommissioning of older hydroelectric dams and cumulative investments of over $145 billion in the last decade will combine to knock hydropower into the number two spot in the rankings by 2019 -- to be replaced by wind power. Growth in wind power is expected to continue for the foreseeable future, promising to make the change permanent. Here's how individual investors can take advantage.

The bubble dynamics of bitcoin

Can bitcoin be a currency if you never know its value? Living outside the traditional banking network by design, its fluctuating value makes it too cumbersome for petty transactions. Yet despite the hurdles, bitcoin and its underlying technology is seen as a kind of "digital gold." Economics correspondent Paul Solman reports.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will cross the border to meet with South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Friday for the first summit between the two countries in more than a decade.

The meeting to ease tensions and discuss possible denuclearization of the North is only the third time leaders of the two countries have met since the 1950-53 Korean War. It also comes ahead of a planned summit between President Donald Trump and Kim later this spring, the first meeting between a sitting U.S. president and a leader of North Korea since the war.

Boston approved a plan Thursday to change the name of Yawkey Way, the street outside Fenway Park named in honor of a former Red Sox owner some have said was racist.

Joseph DeAngelo’s six-year career as a cop came swiftly to an end after being busted for shoplifting a can of dog repellant and a hammer from a Pay N’ Save store in a Sacramento suburb in 1979.

Authorities are now wondering if the items he snatched were intended as tools for the sinister rash of crimes he’s suspected of carrying out.

DeAngelo, 72, was accused Wednesday of being the Golden State Killer who terrorized suburban neighborhoods in a spate of brutal rapes and slayings in the 1970s and ’80s before leaving a cold trail that baffled investigators for decades.

"Stock up on Cheetos and Mt. Dew BEFORE you spark," a local police department in Kansas recently tweeted, warning "potheads" not to drive on 4/20.  While stoners may roll their eyes at the stereotyping, science, it seems, is on the police department's side. Weed impairs our ability to think, organize, and pay attention, studies have shown. And it's not usually associated with productivity and motivation.  Yet, some users feel more focused, even productive, after consuming or smoking weed — even though there's no scientific evidence cannabis acts upon the motivational circuits in our brains

Amazon’s next conquest will be apparel

Late last year, after Amazon announced it had acquired the rights to J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic “Lord of the Rings” saga for $250 million, I wrote how the move underscored Amazon’s relentless pursuit to build one platform to “rule them all.” Now that Amazon is investing half a billion dollars into developing a Middle Earth show – making it the most expensive TV series ever made – it won’t be a surprise to see Jeff Bezos front and center at the Emmys soon.  But Hollywood isn’t the only industry Amazon wants to upend. Based on the company’s great ambitions in apparel, it may not be long before we also see Bezos at New York Fashion Week next to Anna Wintour.
