This week, the personal-finance publication Kiplinger’s released its list of the most — and least — tax-friendly states in America. To draw its conclusions, it used a hypothetical couple with two kids and $150,000 in income a year plus $10,000 in dividend income, and then looked at the income-, property- and sales-tax burden that family would face.
Illinois took the No. 1 spot on the list, thanks in large part to its high property taxes. The Land of Lincoln was followed by Connecticut and New York, both of which have pretty high-income taxes.

A new poll released Wednesday shows for the first time that more voters support than oppose beginning impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump.
A new Politico/Morning Consult poll found that 46% of registered voters believe that Congress should start proceedings, while 43% are opposed and 11% have no opinion. That's a 3-point increase from last week's poll, which found that respondents were split.

Filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, is one of the most important steps students and their families can take to pay for college. In recent years, some states have even made completing the FAFSA a high school graduation requirement.
The U.S. Department of Education awards more than $122.4 billion in federal grants, loans and work-study funds, according to the most recent Federal Student Aid annual report. The agency reports that federal funds assist nearly 13 million students in completing their education.
