Brazilian forest fires are common at this time of year but have spiked since 2018. Billionaire and conservative mega donor David Koch has died. After expanding the Kansas-based Koch Industries into one of the world's largest privately held corporations, Koch and his brother contributed hundreds of millions to GOP candidates through their Americans for Prosperity PAC. David Koch also supported many philanthropic causes and declined to endorse President Trump. John Yang reports.

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine has found that one in three American adults have symptoms of insomnia. Data show there are about 100,000 crashes each year related to drowsy driving which results in 1,550 fatalities and 71,000 injuries. The Institute of Medicine reported that the long-term effects of sleep deprivation can cause serious health consequences such as hypertension, diabetes, heart attack, stroke, and depression.

Most of the cultural conversation about vaccines focuses on children: Which children are getting them, which children aren’t and why, and how those decisions impact the rest of the population. So if you have memories of going to a pediatrician or health clinic as a kid, you might assume that you’ve had all the vaccinations you’ll ever need. You never have to think about it again, right? Unfortunately that’s not how immunity works.

“Adults need vaccines, too, to help them protect against preventable diseases,” David Kim, M.D., M.P.H., deputy associate director for Adult Immunization in the Immunization Services Division at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), tells SELF.
